At this year’s CES, Dell demonstrated the Portable Thunderbolt SSD that supports the Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and is already being tagged as the most compact storage device in the world to date. It is only 3.89 inches long, letting users have an ideal ‘pocket-slipping’ data transfer solution.

The SSD is infused with NAND technology that Dell uses in its PCs. The technology provides up to 2,650MB per second in terms of data storage. As for the Thunderbolt 3 tech, it endorses the device in transferring data to and from PCs at a speed of up to 40 gigabits per second, where 1 gigabit equals to 125MB.

Having said that, the expected data transfer will depend on the parent PC. USB-C ports provide different connection speeds based on the interface technology: USB 2.0 at 480Mbps, USB 3.1 Gen1 at 5Gbps, and USB 3.1 Gen2 at 10Gbps. Along with that, the Thunderbolt 3 connectivity’s efficiency will be with respect to the way it is wired to the motherboard of the parent PC.

[It] uses the same internal SSDs as Dell PC systems, specified to high endurance and reliability standards and covered by Dell’s three-year limited hardware warranty, so you can be assured of the quality of the drives. – Dell

The Portable Dell Thunderbolt 3 SSD will be made available for the consumers from February 28, in two storage capacities. The 500GB variant has the price tag of $349 and the 1TB model will cost $799.
