Disney’s D23 Convention Lays Down Hope for the Comeback of Disney’s Iconic Movies

The D23 fan convention was inaugurated by the actors of the very renowned film “Moana 2” indicating the comeback of the beloved storyline. Actors Dwayne Johnson, Auli’I Cravahlo were on the stage along with some Hawaiian dancers. They declared that the film be in theatres  27 November, onwards.

This year Walt Disney has been dominating the world of cinema as well as the box office by releasing hit movies like Pixar Animation’s “Inside Out 2” along with Marvel’s very own “Deadpool & Wolverine“. Inside Out 2 has become the highest grossing animated film of the entire time, with a global box of encapsulating $ 1.6 billion surpassing Frozen II. Deadpool and Wolverine had the best opening in the category of R rated films boxing $850 million in ticket sales in a global scale. The D23 convention showcased its upcoming films in a three hour spectacle with the help of musical performances as well as the celebrities who have been selected to act in the movies.

Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney claims that no one else could pull of such a well thought fan convention except Disney. The factor of nostalgia which Disney has built with its fans over the years becomes a reason for its continued success. The nature of the classic films strengthens the bond between the fans and the storytellers.

In the musical performance at Disney D23 convention, a chorus performed “The Circle Of Life” from “Lion King” to promote the upcoming film, “Mufasa: The Lion King”. This movie has been directed by Oscar Winner, Barry Jenkins with music from Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The crowd response was most prominently evident for Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, who are coming back with a sequel of “Freaky Friday”.

Walt Disney studios also releases a teaser trailer of the live version of “Snow White”, accompanied by its stars Rachel Zeigler, who plays Disney’s original princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.

“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” adapted from Rick Riordan’s book has also been announced at the convention.

It had also released trailers for its horror series, namely “Agatha All Along” based on “Wandavision”, which also includes a haunting musical performance from the cast of witches in the abovementioned series.

Marvel also launched some of its hits from the last months San Diego Comic Convention. It displayed the “Fantastic Four” films, “Captain America Brave New World” as well as the forthcoming Disney+ series which include “Daredevil Born Again” and “Ironheart”.

D23 also showcase an early look for Disney+ series’ “Skeleton Crew” which is created by Jon Watts as well as Christopher Ford, the creators of Star Wars.

Jon Favreau, the director of “The Mandolorian and Grogu” offered a glimpse of the series due in 2026.

Jennifer Lee announced the released of Frozen musical’s live performance in 2025 which would be available on Disney+. Lee stated that the company is also developing a Broadway musical based on the film “The Greatest Showman”.

Pete Doctor, Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, announced “Dream Productions”, based on “Inside Out’s” main character’s Riley’s dreams which will premier in 2025. He also announced a new installment of Pixar’s very own “The Incredibles” directed by Brad Bird.

Finally, director James Cameron, announced the sequel of Avatar named, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” along with actors Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.

Therefore, there has been a large array of expectations set for the fans!
