“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” – ask any passionate reporter who’s also a Star Wars lover how it feels to start a report like this relevantly. For all the Star Wars fans worldwide, Disney World has its next expansion ready for 2019 with the opening of the theme park Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The team credited for this project took the stage at an exclusive event on May 27 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and provided details on what’s coming. It includes the planet Batuu and the village Black Spire.
We want to make this a believable place. There’s a reason why it’s named that [Black Spire]. Thousands and thousands of years ago, these trees eroded and petrified and are now used as way-finders for travelers. – Margaret Kerrison, managing story editor for Walt Disney Imagineering
Disney representatives stated that this will be not just another Star Wars story, rather offering pages to write a new one for the visitors. Black Spire, being most remote, hosts the most villains from the Star Wars universe. And, there’s more!
Black Spire will also have spaceships, the Millenium Falcon! If you are looking to pilot one of these, you’re in for a treat.
There are about 5,000 people from around the world working on the theme park, says the Imagineering team. Disney is working with Pinewood Studios in the UK for the Galaxy Edge, alongside the next Star Wars movie.
The collaboration for the theme park will result in two complete full-scale AT-AT vehicles (all-terrain armored transport). As per rumors, these vehicles will contribute to the second major attraction of the park, which is another spaceship.
This will be the resistance troop transport spaceship, the second type of spaceship in the park beside Millenium Falcon. There will be other types of spaceships too, but Disney didn’t reveal anything on those.
We’re touching on books, movies and animated series to bring you some unique creatures. – Eric Baker, creative director, Walt Disney Imagineering
The park will also host epic shopping outlets, one of which will be a special creature stall. This is where visitors do not just get to interact with, but as well purchase the unique creatures from the Star Wars universe. Imagineers said that some of these creatures have never featured in the real-life movies. One of these is the Loth-cats from Star Wars Rebels, the animated series.
There’s yet to be a confirmed opening date, but Disney did confirm that Galaxy’s Edge will open Disneyland in Anaheim, California during 2019 summer. It will come to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida as well, during winter in the follow-up.
