As part of its commitment to enhancing its technology industry, the world’s largest drone manufacturer, DJI, has today unveiled the world’s first c1 drone certificate for its Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine drones. The C1 certification gives users of the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 cine more freedom for flying.
The World’s First C1 Drone Certificate
According to the world’s largest drone manufacturer, users can quickly and for free request the C1 certificate starting on December 9. They will have to provide their drone’s serial number along with proof that they have updated to the firmware required for C1 certification as part of the procedure.
At the same time, all future firmware upgrades for the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine will include the technical improvements required by the C1 certificate and cannot be undone, so users who acquire the label after updating their firmware should be aware of this.
C1 Certificate Benefit Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine
The Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine benefit from the C1 certification can be achieved in various ways. Users will no longer need to pass the difficult and pricey A2 “Remote Piloting License” exam to fly in the new A1 Open Category. Without the C1 certificate, they will have more flexibility to fly in areas where they have previously been prohibited unless they are granted special authorization via a further drawn-out administrative procedure.
The C1 certificate was issued earlier this year by the officially recognized notified authority of TÜV Rheinland. It is the first C1 EU-type drone examination certificate under the new European Drone Regulation. It applies to all hardware and C1-updated-firmware of the DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine throughout the European Economic Area (EEA, which comprises the EU plus Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein).
Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine Differs With or Without C1 Certificate
However, it should be noted that there are some differences between flying the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine with or without the C1 certificate. With a C1 certificate and C1-compliant firmware, flying in the A1 Open Category from now on and after 31 December 2023. While without a C1 certificate and C1-compliant firmware, flying in the A2 Open Category until 31 December 2023; or in the A3 Open Category after 1 January 2024.
European Drone Regulation on C1 Certification
According to the drone builder giant, the C1-certified drones with C1-compliant firmware are also subject to additional mandatory changes under European Drone Regulation, which include:
The Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine meet the new noise reduction level of 83db.
When the ActiveTrack Intelligent Flight Mode is used to film people or objects, the distance from the person/object will be limited to 50 m.
Beyond 50 m, ActiveTrack will be disabled.
The Auxiliary LEDs will be turned on or off automatically during use, based on the actual environment and;
The LEDs at the front arms of the drone will blink by default for the duration of the UAV being powered on.
In addition, DJI equally affirmed that these changes would be activated whenever a C1-certified DJI Mavic 3 or Mavic 3 Cine is flown in the European Economic Area (EEA).
