DJI launched the Ronin S 2 and the SC 2 gimbals both of which support one-handed holding and promises some new upgrades. The Ronin S 2 is the upgraded version of the previous Ronin S gimbal.
Ronin S 2 adopts carbon fiber material and as such has dropped almost 590g and now weighs at 2.86 pounds only. The Ronin S 2 is equipped with a small 1.4-inch touch screen just above the joystick which is used as a display of some sort. In the latest version of the DJI gimbal, the user does not need to place a mobile phone above the camera to use various functions such as activity tracks.
The “Titan Stabilization Algorithm” introduced exclusively for the second-gen Ronin 2 could give the gimbal more autonomy. As mentioned earlier, DJI has introduced a few software upgrades, one of which is called SuperSmooth. The SuperSmooth feature is developed especially for lenses that have a focal length of up to 100mm.
The Ronin SC 2 is a smaller version of RS 2. The weight for this gimbal has increased from 2.4 pounds to 2.65 pounds. DJI claims that the SC 2 will work better with popular camera/lens combinations, for example, Panasonic SH1 and 24-70mm lens combinations and the like. It comes equipped with a new folding design which allows the gimbal to remain in suspension mode which will come in handy for users while shooting low-altitude images.
Just above the handle, there is a tiny 1-inch display screen. Both the gimbals support a battery life of up to 12 hours and support fast-charging. The gimbals can work up to 2 hours with only 15-minutes of charging. DJI has introduced the “Time Tunnel” mode to both the gimbals, and it supports 360-degree Scroll time-lapse shooting.
DJI Ronin S 2 and SC 2 are now available for sale at a price of 549 USD and 499 USD respectively. DJI is also offering a Pro Combo Kit which for Ronin S 2 is priced at 999 USD and for Ronin SC 2 at 739 USD.
