Douyin, or what is popularly known as TikTok worldwide, is the most downloaded non-gaming app as of now. There are a lot of reasons behind its sudden popularity, especially among the younger generation. As with any app, the developers are constantly trying to improve the app by including new features.
TikTok or what is known as Douyin in China, is testing out a new feature. In the recent new version test, the app has launched the “listening video mode”. After switching back to the desktop or the lock screen, the users of the app can continue listening to the video, which will be played in the background.
The new “listening to video mode” feature is still in its testing mode, and not every user has access to it. Only a handful of users who had been chosen by the developers to act as testers will see the added “listening to video mode” prompt at the top of the short video interface.
A few reports have claimed that when the phone is locked or switched to the lock screen mode, the short video content of the app will continue playing by sound; that is, the user can only listen to the sound of the video content. Although some have aired the opinion that the need to listen to short video content is rather useless, Douyin has pointed out that the new video is targeted more towards content that is short stories and news.
The listening video mode of the Douyin test belongs to online audio. A report has revealed that the number of online users of the app in China will be close to 570 million, whereas the number will increase and reach 690 million in the year 2022.
Douyin already offers a variety of content, such as finance, technology, storytelling, and stories. The new “listening to video mode”, whenever it becomes available to users worldwide, will enable the users to receive content information on their phones anywhere.
