Intel has reached CES 2019 with much desire to talk about the plans of the company and its 10 nm node. This means that Intel has begun to share some additional information about the Ice Lake platforms in terms of the desktop segment for home users. But Intel has also introduced its new processors of the 9th Generation Core of the F series, which lack the iGPU enabled inside.
Intel must have solved many of the problems that have been stalking it with the new 10 nm node so that it has arrived at CES 2019 with so much desire to talk about this node. No wonder, given all the problems and delays that the company has suffered to develop it. Intel’s first processor spoken at CES 2019 is about its Ice Lake range. Specifically, the company has talked about the Ice Lake-U processors that it has recently developed for the laptops segment. These processors had already been put into production the last year, in 2018, but in very low volume and with their integrated graphics disabled. Intel has finally shared that the new Sunny Cove architecture for laptops with its range tops 4-core and 8-core processors (very much in line with current Core processors for notebooks) but will have an iGPU with twice as many units of execution (64 instead of 32).
Lakefield is Intel’s first hybrid processor
Lakefield is an order from an Intel client that asked them to develop a chip that included both Dual Core and Atom cores in the same processor, very much in the style of ARM’s big.LiTTLE architectures. Which resulted in the launch of the world’s first hybrid x86 processor. In the case of Lakefield, the processor employs a single Sunny Cove core plus and four Atom Tremont cores, with integrated 11th Generation graphics.
The company has commented that this chip will go into production for the holiday season of 2019. This may mean that it will be ready for the next Christmas of 2019.
About Cascade Lake
During CES 2019, Intel has also commented that some of the blue giant’s partners have already been able to start buying the new Cascade Lake-SP processors in certain quantities and some Cascade Lake-AP. This is the platform for servers and data centers of Intel that was talked about in the middle of the last year, 2018. However, this announcement does not mean that there is already full availability in the retail channel of these new processors. Only certain partners can buy them in volume.
Intel Core F: the same 9th Generation processors but without iGPU
The new 9th Generation Core processors are remarkable for being completely identical to the current models on the market, except for having the iGPU disabled. This is done by the company to output all the processors that it manufactures but which have defects in their integrated graphics. In this way, Intel can sell these completely valid processors to users.
The 5 processors of this new series have been presented: Core i9-9900KF, Core i7-9700KF, Core i5-9600KF, Core i5-9400F, and Core i3-9350KF. The technical specifications of these new processors are identical to the current 9th Generation SoC. Prices have not been revealed yet.
