Earlier this year, Samsung Electronics announced the release of its latest external storage device, the T7 Shield Portable Solid State Drive (PSSD), which offers exceptional performance and reliability in a credit card-sized design.

The T7 Shield is the newest member of the Samsung T7 Portable SSD family, which also includes the T7, a daily driver with incredibly fast speeds in a sleek design, and the T7 Touch,1 a CES award-winning PSSD with a built-in fingerprint sensor for enhanced data security.

The company’s newest portable SSD comes with exceptional performance, reliability, and security, developed by four Samsung developers, namely Minseok Kim, the circuit designer, HHanzhongLee, the mechanical designer; Sangjin Jung, the product planner; and Gyejin Jun, the product designer.

The T7 Shield Portable SSD features the most recent V-NAND technology as well as an ultra-fast interface Non-Volatile Memory express (NVMe) controller. The memory semiconductor, specifically NAND flash memory, is the main component of SSDs.

Analyzing the newest portable SSD, the four developers explained how they could come up with the latest external storage device to suit consumer consumers

Sangjin Jung, the product planner, said the device boasts the industry’s highest level of performance. According to him, the fastest speeds of the device can enable 1GB of data to be transferred in a second, so transferring a full movie file, around 4GB, with full HD picture quality only takes 4 seconds.

On the other hand, Hanzhong Lee, the mechanical designer, said to provide an equal level of performance compared to the company’s previous products, the developer can increase the device level of waterproofing by designing it to have silicon rubber.

Lee said, “We were able to increase its level of waterproofing by designing the device to have silicon rubber on the exterior with a separate seal,” said Lee. “To provide an equal level of performance compared to our previously released products, we conduct total inspections using air pressure. The unique features of the T7 Shield will be even more noticeable in different environments.”

To ensure users’ convenience, Minseok Kim, the circuit designer, discloses that the device is in line with safety standards and can be used without experiencing much difference in performance even when storage is full.

“Consumers were inconvenienced by the lowered performance when working with large files, but the T7 Shield has addressed this through power optimization,” Kim said. “Now, consumers can use the device without experiencing much difference in performance even when storage is full.”

Additionally, Gyejin Jun, the product designer, maintained that the company’s newest portable SSD is adaptable to any environment and comes in a unique basic color.

“We tried to make the T7 series adaptable to any environment while maintaining the identity of the series. We tried to strike the right balance to make the unique charm of the T7 Shield stand out even more,” he explained. “We offer the basic colour black to represent the unique waterproof and dustproof qualities of the T7 Shield We also offer blue as it represents water, and we also offer beige, which represents soft sand. Users have these options to choose from according to their preference.”
