Yesterday, Glassdoor released its 10th annual Employees’ Choice Awards which consists of 100 top companies to work for in 2018 in the United States. Facebook made it to the top for the fifth time now, the other four instances being in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2017.
It is, therefore, a five-out-of-ten for Facebook, which is indeed the ‘best company to work for as it seems. The social media market leader is also the only company so far to have topped the list more than once. We convey our hearty congratulations to the employees who are enjoying the recognition of their workplace!
The 2014 edition of the Awards saw Twitter leading, with Google and Airbnb as the same in 2015 and 2016 consecutively. Twitter and Airbnb didn’t make a list in this edition, but Google did, which is the company that has made a list yearly. Apple is the only other company to have achieved the same, and it slipped 48 spots, ending up at 84, for 2018.
In terms of categories, 19 tech companies made the ‘top 50’ this year, 20 of the same in the last year, and 21 the year before. A total of 28 tech companies made this year’s list of 100 companies.
Furthermore, it is observed that tech companies are topping the list over the years now. More interestingly, this year’s list has noticeably fewer members under other categories: retail (11 companies), health care (11), consulting (6), finance (6), and travel & tourism (6).
The list is created based on the feedback of at least 1,000 employees of each company. The feedback covers their job and works environment along with the respective company ‘via any anonymous online company review survey.’ Then, Glassdoor implements a proprietary algorithm for defining overall rankings based on ‘quantity, quality, and review consistency’.
The eight workplace attributes the employees provide feedback on are: career opportunities, an overall company rating, compensations and benefits, senior management, culture and values, a balance between work and life, a six-month business outlook, and ‘recommend to a friend.’
Other aspects that Glassdoor takes note of regarding the companies are the types of employment status like freelance, full-time, part-time, and contract. Universities, intern companies, government organizations, and multi-level marketing agencies are not considered.
