Facebook has been taken with the storm in the past one week or so regarding access to user info without their permission. The social media giant raised its voice with denial and clarification. It was questioned that Facebook had been logging users’ call and text history.
The tech leader says that this logging is a part of Facebook opt-in features for Messenger and Lite, helping in staying connected with others. It is as well pointed out on Facebook’s blog that the feature can be turned off for both apps, even if you haven’t skipped it at the beginning of your profile setup.
This is only an optional feature, whereas on Messenger Settings, you can either choose to ‘learn more or simply ‘not now.’ On Lite, you get to ‘skip’ if you don’t want to turn it ‘on.’ If it’s activated, Facebook keeps logging the info from history! It can be downloaded anytime using Download Your Information tool.
It is as well possible to turn off the logging while keeping contact uploading enabled. Checking out which contacts are shared and deleting instantly to again stop sharing are on the cards too!
Facebook ensures with the disclaimer that the content of the calls and texts is not collected. Neither is the logged info shared or sold to third parties. Facebook expresses its commitment to user privacy that rather helps them expand in the global community via the service.
