Social media giant Facebook has launched the most requested Messenger feature ever in the popular messaging app – allowing users to engage in Group Video Chats. Facebook is releasing an update today to the Messenger App now users from their Android, iOS smartphones, or desktops can connect with their friends in Group Video Chat.
According to a blog post in the Facebook Newsroom, the Group Video Chat will be easy to use and will allow up to 6 people at the same time to chat via video. For those whose groups are larger than 6, there is an option where up to 50 friends can join in a chat via audio with everyone able to mute or turn the video off at any time. For everyone, the dominant speaker will always be shown, though, unless they turn their own video off.
To use Messenger all you have to do is jump into an existing group conversation, or create a new one. Then tap on the video icon on the upper right of the screen to enter the video chat and everyone in the group will be notified. Each person can join when they are ready with just one tap. For an extra nudge, you can also directly ring just a few people or the whole group.
Group Video Chat is rolling out to Android and iOS devices, and the desktop version of Messenger, worldwide. To use the feature, you will need the latest version of Messenger from Google Play.
