Facebook Vp Diego Jorge Dzodan Arrested Over Refusal to Share Information

The legal battle between Apple and the FBI has sorted out yet another piece of news just came in – Brazilian police today arrested Diego Jorge Dzodan, Facebook’s Vice President of Operations Latin America. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Dzodan failed to provide information linked to an organized crime and drug trafficking case to the police in complying with the judicial order from the Facebook server.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has over 900 million users worldwide; in Brazil, it has around 100 million users. Last year in December, a judge of the county blocked WhatsApp for 48 hours and fined a daily $25,000 for a 30-day period after Facebook refused to share user information with the police. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, strongly reacted after the block, saying the decision was disappointing.

A Facebook spokesman said the company is “disappointed with the extreme and disproportionate measure” of taking Mr. Dzodan into custody. Though the spokesman denied commenting on the matter said, “Mr. Dzodan was detained for questioning, not arrested.”
