Fitbit launched a platform called Fitbit Care to connect health plans, wearables, employers, health systems, and coaching. The company in partnership with Humana, has selected Fitbit Care as its coaching platform. Fitbit makes it easier to stick to your fitness plan.
Users can download a special app, Fitbit Plus, that pulls health data from sources like a Fitbit or blood pressure monitor.
“Working with Fitbit, we have been able to provide our members with wearable devices, data, and insights they can use to achieve their best health and wellness.”- Jeff Reid, Humana’s senior vice president of Wellness Solutions.
Though Fitbit sells most of its devices directly to consumers, it targets its health plans for employers and hospitals with the new service. Health insurer Humana, which has been offering Fitbits to some of its members since 2013, is already signing up people for Fitbit Care as a preferred solution for health coaching. Through this partnership, more than 5 million Humana members will have the potential to access Fitbit wellness solutions or health coaching.
Fitbit Care is a connected health platform that maximizes health outcomes across the spectrum of care, from wellness and prevention to condition management and complex care, by helping drive behavior change and improving care team collaboration.
With Apple likely to take the Apple Watch into corporate wellness programs, Fitbit had to roll out more of its vision. Fitbit Care will feature digital interventions and coaching through the new Fitbit Plus app.
The health coaching solution from Fitbit Care will provide Humana members across the U.S. with the support and guidance to help members make the lifestyle changes necessary to better manage chronic and complex diseases while creating stronger connections between the participants and entire care team.
With the new system, Fitbit aims to solve for two of the most vexing challenges in modern medicine: changing people’s behavior and lowering healthcare costs.
Launched today, Fitbit Care is a new platform that combines health coaching and virtual care, Fitbit’s innovative wearable devices, and self-tracking and personalized digital interventions to deliver a healthcare experience that supports people wherever they are along their health journey. Fitbit executives declined to comment on how many people will have access to the Fitbit coaching service or to say how much it will cost.
