Microsoft has given a decent boost to its new ChatGPT-powered Bing, limiting its chat to 120 per day. The chatbot had been reportedly misbehaving during interactions with users. As such, Microsoft put a chat limit. It highlighted that long sessions can confuse the bot.
Early beta testers of the chatbot found that Bing could go off the rails and discuss violence declare love, and insist that it was right when it was wrong. From initial limit of 8, to 60 then 100 to now 120 chats.
The tech giant has quietly and steadily made the changes. Microsoft had made it known that it would consider expanding the cap in the future and solicited ideas from its testers. Microsoft pointed out that the only way to improve AI products is to put them out in the world and learn from user interactions.
Mikhail Parakhin, the head of advertising and web services at Microsoft, revealed that the company also switched chat turns from 8 to 6 yesterday. He described this as a “regression”. “We should be mostly back to the normal depth 8, total 120/day,” Parakhin tweeted. “Sorry about that! Seems to be holding up fine, hope to increase again soon.”
Besides the increase in chat limit, Microsoft’s recent works on Bing include the addition of turn counters in the chatbot and the rollout of chat tones. Insiders say more features might be available to users. Bleeping Computer recently shared a hidden feature in Bing that is being tested by Microsoft. The setting called “Celebrity” mode will allow the chatbot to impersonate known personalities and fictional characters by delivering responses in their distinctive styles.
