Samsung has brought out the October security patch for its latest devices, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S8. The latest patch is already available in the Netherlands. It will be released in other countries very soon. The update, sized at 479 MB carrying the firmware version G955FXXU1AQI9, can be downloaded over the air. The performance of Samsung devices like Galaxy S7 and Galaxy A5 did improve significantly after a similar patch was released by Samsung exclusively for them in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
According to Samsung, this new update will stabilize the launcher and the DeX mode. The DeX mode is suspected to be related to the upcoming support for running Linux OS on DeX. Unlike the other monthly updates, this one will probably not have any hidden user-facing features.
The update can be downloaded manually by opening the phone setting and then tapping on the ‘Software update’ option. There will be an exclusive ‘Download updates manually’ option there. There is no reason to freak out if you fail to find such an option in your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+. It might take a couple of days to be available worldwide. In a few days, it will also be up in our firmware database.
If you have already successfully updated your Galaxy S8 or S8+, don’t forget to let us know about the changes you have observed and what you think about them in the comment box below.
