Let’s welcome the new members of the Galaxy family. On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy wearable lineup that includes Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Fit, and Galaxy Buds. Joining the Galaxy Buds in the company’s expanded wearables lineup, the new devices combine a minimalist, lightweight design with improved fitness tracking and wellbeing features. Let’s have a detailed view of these.
The Galaxy Watch Active
Talking about the new smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active looks and feels like a slimmed-down version of last year’s Galaxy Watch, devoid of the rotating bezel. It consists of two buttons on the side panel along with a thin aluminum frame in four different shades black, silver, rose gold, and sea green, with a flexible rubber band.
The watch has a slightly smaller footprint than previous Galaxy smartwatches with a 40mm watch dial. The former Galaxy Watch device was considered more beautiful with a large watch face, and that size made it tougher to recommend for people with smaller wrists. The color 1.1-inch (28mm) always-on display has a 360×360-pixel resolution. Like previous Galaxy smartwatches, the Active runs Samsung’s own Tizen-based wearable operating system 4.0 that’s compatible with both Android and iOS devices.
The Galaxy Watch Active is best for the fitness freak as it comes loaded with health and fitness tools that will help you take charge of your well-being and will be the first Samsung wearable with the ability to monitor blood pressure. The Galaxy Watch Active has similar specs to that of last year’s Galaxy Watch. It’s equipped with the same dual-core Exynos 9110 processor as the Galaxy Watch, packed with 728MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a 236mAh battery and Qi wireless charging.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is to be available for pre-order from February 21 and will release on March 8. On pre-ordering the watch, you can also get a free wireless battery pack.
Galaxy Buds
The Galaxy Buds come in a well-designed, compact case that supports wireless charging. All the Galaxy S10 devices feature built-in reverse wireless charging. So, if you do happen to get a Galaxy S10 or S10 Plus, you can charge your Galaxy Buds by merely placing them on the back of the handset. The case can also be charged via USB-C.
Samsung estimates that the Galaxy Buds will offer roughly 5 hours of talk time and 6 hours of music playback as compared to the 2 hours of talk time and 5 hours of music playback on the AirPods. The case will also feature an additional 7 hours of battery life when fully charged.
Samsung is touting AKG branding on the new earbuds, a recognized pro audio brand, engineering some of the best headphones. The Galaxy Buds pair straight out of the box via Bluetooth 5.0. The earbuds offer an improved connection to multiple devices and have a greater range thanks to Bluetooth 5.0. The new true wireless earbuds will also feature Connection Shift, which will allow users to swap between a smart wearable and a phone faster. The Galaxy Buds will arrive on March 8 for $129.
Galaxy Fit and Fit E
A simple fitness tracking device is what it means for the Galaxy Fit and Fit E. Featuring thin and lightweight designs, the Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit E come with automatic fitness tracking. This device can automatically start tracking when you run, walk, bike, or even start a general dynamic workout. There is also a customized option to select manually from 90 different exercises.
The Galaxy Fit features a 0.95-inch 120×240 pixel AMOLED screen, whereas the Galaxy Fit E comes with a 0.74-inch 64×128 pixel PMOLED display. Both activity trackers run on Realtime OS and include 5ATM water resistance and a heart-rate monitor. The Samsung Galaxy Fit will be offered in Black and Silver colors, whereas the Fit E will arrive in Black, White and Yellow colors.
The Galaxy Fit is the better one of the two wearables, featuring an additional gyroscope sensor, some extra memory, a bigger 120mAh battery, and wireless charging. It is anticipated to come in Black and Silver. The Samsung Galaxy Fit will carry a price tag of $99 (roughly Rs. 7,000) in the US and will go on sale on May 31. There is no word on the pricing or availability details of the Galaxy Fit E right now.
