In a bid to further support Indian student developers, Microsoft-owned open-source developer platform GitHub on Wednesday announced the ‘Externships Winter Cohort’ in the country.
This season GitHub has added a new DevSecOps track, along with Open Source, to help college students develop greater software development skills.
“Students hold a special place in our hearts. They are our next generation of developers who will continue to drive software innovation forward for our digital nation,” Maneesh Sharma, General Manager, GitHub India, said in a statement.
“That is why, as we continue to support India’s talented student developers, we are thrilled to announce the GitHub Externships Winter Cohort,” Sharma added.
With the support of partners including Deepsource, Appwrite, Symbl.AI, Hopscotch, FamPay, Zeeve, Leverice, Saraverse, and many more, providing projects and mentors, the GitHub Externships will help nurture talent and enable the next generation of developers in India to drive the country’s digital future.
With over one million new engineering graduates in India every year, the company said that the industry must work together to equip future developers with the skills and experience they need to succeed in the real world.
At GitHub Satellite India 2021, the company announced the GitHub Externships to help college students in India get real-world experience engaging with enterprises across the country and collaborate on open source projects with other developers on GitHub.
Applications are now open and students can register till December 14 to apply.
