Google yesterday, May 1 announced .app that’s the newest TLD (top-level domain) from Google Registry. It is specifically created for the apps and app developers that brings added security for everything related to the apps.
The new Google .app domain name is dedicated to apps, where users can learn more about the developers’ apps. It can be used as a landing page for sharing trustworthy download links. It further enables developers to provide timely updates to users and deep links to in-app content.
Most importantly, it is about the security that’s built-in for both users and developers. Notably, you need HTTPS for connecting to all .app websites. It will ensure protection against ‘ad malware and tracking injection by ISPs.’ It will as well safeguard against spying over Wi-Fi networks that are open.
The .app top-level domain is going to be the first TLD with enforced security for general registration. Therefore, it is helping the web transit to an HTTPS-everywhere future in a major manner.
Google has made available the .app domain for registration via its Early Access Program starting yesterday until May 7. An additional fee will get you to secure desired domains before general availability. Starting May 8, the availability will be provided to the general public via any registrar of their respective choice.
Visit get. app for choosing a registrar partner to process registering your domain. You’ll as well get to see who else is already hooked on to the TLD.
