Google Chrome will receive support for proper Windows mixed-reality. There is information about adding support for Windows Mixed Reality in WebVR. Google Chrome has supported some virtual reality headsets like Oculus Rift on Windows for almost a year now through Google’s WebVR program, but Windows Mixed Reality headsets were notably incompatible. This is soon to change.
According to a new Chromium commit, users will benefit from the Windows Mixed Reality headsets with WebVR. This possibly signals nothing more than the fact that works on such a function are already underway. In a short time, Chrome users will be able to use such glasses in Windows 10.
The announced improvements include native dark theme support in the browser, along with other enhancements currently in the testing mode, like blocking unintended downloads.
No other code has yet been associated with this experiment, but it’s good to know that Google has it in mind and is working on it. It is quite possible that this change is related to Microsoft’s work to rebuild Edge based on Chrome’s Blink engine.
Since its launch, games and productivity software like Steam and Microsoft Edge have picked up Windows Mixed Reality support. Microsoft Edge has proven that the WebVR standard is ready for Windows Mixed Reality devices.
