Google had partnered up with Defending Digital Campaigns at the start of the U.S. 2020 election season to give any eligible Federal campaign access to free Titan Security Keys. This is part of Google’s Advanced Protection Program, which ensures safety for election officials, activists, journalists, and the like.
Google’s official blog post says, “In the lead up to the 2020 elections, DDC distributed more than 10,000 Titan Security key bundles to more than 140 U.S. Federal campaigns.”
Google has announced that it will expand its support for the DDC so that high-rank officials, political parties, committees, and related organizations can defend themselves against fatal security threats. The new support will pave the way for supporting virtual security training (nonpartisan) across the U.S. This will involve teaching the members from the political sector the basics so that they can keep their information safe.
Furthermore, Google will also deploy a cybersecurity help desk to answer cybersecurity-related queries and product implementation support. This will include, but not be limited to, support for our Advanced Protection Program and Titan Security Keys, and other Google security products and services. On the other hand, DDC is building an online knowledge base that will help with answering frequently asked questions, have easy access to security best practices, and much more.
Google is also supporting a new cybersecurity training initiative for elected officials and their staff. This aims to educate lawmakers on ways to strengthen their defenses against digital attacks.
The training program is for all 50 states and will be conducted through a series of virtual seminars throughout 2021. The blog-post also mentions that the Advanced Protection Program which also bundles the Google Account security options, is free and that it is available for both personal and Workspace accounts.
