Well, in this tech prompting generation, soon, you’ll be able to load a secure version of your driver’s license onto your mobile device. A future version of Android could allow you to carry a digital version of your IDs, such as a driver’s license or another standardized identity credential. Google is apparently working on a new API that would be able to store a digital version of your license on your smartphone.

This API, called the IdentityCredential API, seeks to solve some of the major issues with digital IDs. The API tackles issues like controlling what can access your digital ID and ensuring you have enough charge so you can turn on your phone and pull up the ID.

With this new method, the company is trying to aim probably one of the most essential things that a majority of users carry in their wallet in addition to money and other credit or debit cards, the driver’s license.

According to external reports, the company is working on addressing some other fundamental issues that are associated with keeping your critical data on a smartphone. These issues include limited battery life. Circumstances may happen like; If you are driving and your smartphone runs out of battery and eventually shuts down, then you need your driver’s license or any other crucial identity-related document. If the company manages to figure a secure and full-proof way for this, users can easily do away with their wallets in ideal conditions.

Not much is known regarding this API as the commit was submitted recently and didn’t offer much information. With Google Pay replacing the wallet it seems that this new API will be leaving very few reasons to carry our wallet with us. A physical wallet could be a thing of the past.
