A Google Fi user residing in Hawaii received several messages over Hangout on 5th April; however, the problem was that the sender sent those texts on Easter Sunday, but the receiver received those messages on Monday, that is to say, there was a significant delay in communication. The tech giant Google has acknowledged the problem and even sent out an apology letter to those affected by this problem. Moreover, Google has also informed the Fi users who use Hangout that any text messages sent to them between March 31 and April 5 may be delayed.

Google has cited a service outage as the main reason behind the message delay problem. The company also mentioned that the team working there has resolved the issue and that the delayed messages are gradually being sent over to their concerned recipients. The missing information should appear in the Hangout apps before the end of April 7th.

Various features of the Hangout apps were supposed to have been disabled within the last week by Google; however, the interruption in sending and receiving messages occurred before Google could shut down the services in Hangouts. An official spokesperson on behalf of Google also mentioned that they are trying to notify the users who have been affected by this problem.

For years now Google wanted to shut down Hangouts, so the chances of active users relying solely on this app are very low. But those who chose not to migrate to other messaging apps and continued using Hangouts had been affected by it. But the problem of delayed messages is not new. Back in November 2019 more than 168,000 messages were delivered which were originally sent on Valentine’s Day 2019, in this case, the delay was of a long nine months. But that problem was due to a server failure on part of Syniverse.
