Google announced 100 significant changes aimed at boosting artificial intelligence throughout the ecosystem at Google I/O 2025. AI is now ingrained in many aspects of Google’s future, from more intelligent Search and Gemini assistants to creative tools and immersive gear.

Smarter Search by Gemini

With the help of Gemini 2.5, Google launched AI Mode in Search, which is currently available in the US and provides comprehensive, contextual responses. While Deep Search offers robust research tools and real-time data, new capabilities like Project Astra let users ask questions with their camera. Additionally, users may watch pricing with a simpler checkout process, obtain summaries driven by AI, and virtually test clothing. Today, Gemini models serve 1.5 billion AI Overviews every month across more than 200 nations.

Gemini: The AI Assistant

Major updates to the Gemini app included tighter integrations with Gmail, Docs, Calendar, and Keep, as well as Gemini Live for screen sharing and natural voice interactions. While Agent Mode allows users to provide tasks to Gemini, which then manages the steps on its own, a new Canvas Create feature allows users to transform text into quizzes and infographics. Gemini is intended to become a true personal assistant across devices with these features.

Creative AI: Veo, Imagen, and Music

Google introduced Veo, a cutting-edge AI video model that produces audio-rich, high-quality footage. While Flow assists storytellers in managing visuals scene by scene, Imagen 4 provides photorealistic image production. Lyria 2’s Music AI Sandbox allows for real-time creativity in music. With capabilities like watermarking via SynthID for transparency, these tools are made for filmmakers, artists, and educators.

Multimodal and Immersive Experiences

Google’s Project Astra has taken a significant leap forward in 2025, introducing powerful new features like live voice interaction, on-screen control, and persistent memory. These capabilities enable Astra to power seamless experiences on smart glasses, including real-time translation, conversational messaging, and context-aware assistance, making it a core pillar of Google’s vision for ambient computing. Users can now engage more naturally and intuitively with their devices, bridging the gap between the digital and physical world.

In parallel, Google offered a first glimpse of Project Moohan, its collaboration with Samsung to develop an Android XR headset designed for immersive computing. Aimed at rivaling Apple’s Vision Pro, the device is expected to combine Google’s software prowess with Samsung’s hardware innovation.

Additionally, Google Beam redefines video calling with 3D spatial realism and lifelike presence, leveraging AI and advanced camera technology to make virtual communication feel truly personal. Together, these innovations signal Google’s growing dominance in the next-gen computing landscape.

Developer Tools and Access

Gemini, Google’s powerful AI model, is now integrated across Vertex AI, Chrome, and Android and is actively used by over 7 million developers worldwide. This widespread adoption underscores its growing role in powering next-generation AI applications. Google recently launched new AI Ultra and AI Pro subscription plans, with special access available to students in select countries, further expanding AI accessibility.

With enhancements in security, transparency, and advanced APIs, developers are empowered to build reliable, agentic AI-driven applications. These improvements aim to foster trust and innovation, allowing developers to create scalable, intelligent solutions across a broad range of platforms and industries.
