Watch Out: Google Messages Will Soon Let You Create a Profile Similar to WhatsApp

Over the past few weeks, Google Messages has frequently been updating, focusing mostly on the interface and privacy. The messaging app was spotted with a slightly redesigned account switcher in line with the Material You are theming. Recently, the service added end-to-end encryption for groups of up to 100 people, up from the previous limit of 21 members.

However, a new leak has revealed that the messaging app is working on a new Messages feature allowing users to create their profiles. With this upcoming feature, users can create a profile with a photo and personal information, similar to what is obtainable on Telegram and WhatsApp.

A Reddit user first noticed the peculiarity when he saw the new functionality in the application’s beta version, but it still couldn’t be used. As the tipster advises, you may create a profile using your email address and then upload a profile picture.

To choose whether the public, contacts, or just you can read your profile, there might also be a visibility option. Anyone who sends you a message can see your profile information if you respond to them if the privacy is set to public.

“To create a profile, the user will need to provide their email address and upload a profile picture, the Reddit user noted.”

Although it is yet unknown how this new feature operates, other messaging platforms often include a visibility choice as part of the profile setup. You’ll also find toggles for receiving notifications anytime one of your contacts makes a new update, most likely a minor modification to their name or phone number, under the profile settings menu.

Personalized alerts are another innovation that has been attempted in conjunction with the profile function. Google Messages always want to let you know when a contact creates a profile or changes any information. Since the profile’s interface is still in its infancy and will likely undergo significant changes over the coming few months, the user can disable these warnings in the settings menu.

As it stands, we don’t know when the Google Messages option to create a profile feature will be released to the public, but we expect to see it soon. Thus, stay connected with TechGenyz for more updates.
