Last month, at Google’s annual developer conference – Google I/O 2023, we saw the official announcement of Google’s Pixel 7A and Pixel tablet, as well as the Android 14 operating system. At the conference, the tech giant announced that it will be launching the Google Pixel 8 series later this year, probably within the second or third quarter of the year.
Ahead of this date, a new leak has just confirmed that the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be coming with significant camera upgrades over their predecessors. As we all know, the exciting Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro also featured an upgraded ultrawide lens with an exclusive 5x telephoto lens. Now, let’s look at the expected camera upgrade of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
Google Pixel 8 Series Expected Camera Upgrade
As reported by Android Authority, the duo Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will come with upgraded camera hardware with the Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor, which is a 50-megapixel sensor and offers up to 100MP imaging. This camera hardware has surpassed the 50 MP Octa PD Quad Bayer wide camera of the Pixel 7 Pro.
Support for Staggered HDR, which is intended to shorten the time between HDR frames, will be another significant enhancement. This will quicken the HDR mode capture process and aid in reducing ghosting. The HDR+ capability that already comes with Google’s current Pixel phones is expected to be improved even further by this feature.
Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 Pro’s telephoto camera is said to have the same 48MP sensor as the Pixel 7 Pro. The selfie camera is rumoured to have the same 11MP front camera as the Pixel 7 series. Therefore, there is no update. Besides, a new 88 ToF VL53L8 sensor is being added to the Pixel 8 Pro, which should result in significantly better autofocus.
The 64 MP Sony IMX787 sensor, which serves as the main camera of the Pixel 7a, will serve as the ultrawide camera on the Pixel 8 Pro. The Sony IMX386, which is also found on the Pixel 6 series but with a wider 0.55x zoom ratio as opposed to 0.67x in the latter, is expected to be the ultrawide camera on the Pixel 8. Additionally, a large 1/1.12-inch sized sensor which will allow it to capture more light that will result in better low-light images, is also expected in the smartphone.
On the other hand, we also anticipate several camera software advancements on the Duo smartphones. Although there is not much information on this currently, we hope always to update once we get one. As it stands now, the official launch date of the Google Pixel 8 series has not been announced yet. Thus, stay connected with TechGenyz for more updates.
