Google is set to launch its latest budget-friendly smartphone, the Google Pixel 9a by March of this year. However, the price tag for the phone leaves some people criticizing Google for what is called a “profit-driven move”.
Price Comparison with Previous Models
The Google Pixel 9a is expected to be priced at $499 or ₹43,100 for its base model with 128 GB storage, however, its higher-end model with 256 GB storage is expected to cost $599 or ₹51,800, a significant bump in price. Compared to its predecessor, the Google Pixel 8a, the higher-end model of the Pixel 9a is surprisingly $40 or ₹3,400 more. It seems that Google is following a recurring strategic policy of hiking prices on their higher-end models, similar to what we see Apple has been doing for years.
Key Features and Upgrades
The Google Pixel 9a is set to pack numerous improvements from its predecessor. The expected features comprise a 6.3-inch Actua display featuring adaptive refresh rates at 60Hz or 120Hz, compared to Pixel 8a 6.1-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. While the Pixel 8a comprised of the Tensor G3 chip and came with 6GB of RAM, the Pixel 9a shall be operating on the Tensor G4 chip found on Google’s flagship models combined with 8GB of RAM.
Camera Specifications and Battery Life
On the camera specifications aspect, the Pixel 9a might have a 48MP camera as its main camera with an additional 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 13MP front-facing camera. It’s supposed to have a longer battery life because of an improved 5,000mAh battery.
A Strong Contender
The Google Pixel 9a appears to have outstanding advancement on an unbelievable scale in terms of features and specifications as opposed to its predecessor. While the base model is expected to be priced similarly to the Pixel 8a, the higher-end model will come with a price that has been raised in line, indicating an upgrade in the new device’s capability. Considering its availability paired with its features and notable price for its time, the price of the higher-end version of the phone, the Google Pixel 9a has the potential to be a strong contender in the budget-friendly smartphone market.
