Handsets running on Android 4.x Ice Cream Sandwich will not get further support and update from the Google Play Store. This is because the percentage of the active Android device running on this version of Android OS is just 1%, also this Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich is now seven years old, the announcement was made today by Google.
Now onwards no tablets or phones running on Android 4.x will be able to receive any notification or update from the Google Play Services APK beyond 14.7.99 version. Users who are still using devices running on Ice Cream Sandwich will no longer be able to update applications installed from the Google Play Store.
The first-ever device to run on Android Ice Cream Sandwich was the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, so technically this is an end of Google’s support for the Android version which was launched long back in the year 2011, 19th of October.
Google is now trying to convince the developers that they should now target the 16 API level and higher. The company stated that very few numbers of the Android devices are using this API level which is under 16, so now the developers who are going to target this level needs to give access to the Android users so that they can update apps.
