Google is working on a standalone Tasks app for its office productivity apps suite to the relief of many of its users. Along with the launch of the new Gmail, the company has announced integration with Google Tasks. In Gmail, it will now be possible for users to drag emails to the ‘Tasks’ section of the web app to create to-do lists based on them.
Apart from that, Google shall soon be releasing a standalone Tasks app for Android and iOS to do away with the confusing flow of outputs and inputs between numerous apps like Google Keep, Google Assistant, and Google Calendar; all of which either accepted or showed users their tasks, without letting them create a more convenient single list for it all.
While the basic version of Google Tasks for Android appears to be pretty bare as of now, it nevertheless has the ability to be a nesting place for tasks and have them associated with emails and assign due dates. Setting priorities, categories, and tags are other features that a to-do app needs to be equipped with, but Google has yet to work on those.
But the mere presence of the Tasks app is a move in the right direction to create a more coherent and directed office app strategy. The new updates added to the new Gmail being launched today have also been directed to this end to make the office app offerings on par with the core apps that were included with the original Palm Pilot in 1997.
