Investing in technologies aimed at tackling climate change has the potential to move the needle on sustainability progress and positively impact our planet. Over the years, Google has been supporting startups focused on climate change to take action. The company believes that investing in climate-focused technology and entrepreneurs is a step toward a healthier planet for all. Accordingly, the new application for a 10-week Google for Startups Accelerator for climate-focused startups in North America or Europe has been announced.

Announcing Google for Startups Accelerator: Climate Change Program

“This month, we’re launching our Google for Startups Accelerator: Climate Change program in both North America and Europe to focus on identifying, supporting, and scaling startups that are building technologies to combat climate change”, said Google.

Since its inception, Google has incorporated sustainability into every aspect of its operations and established high standards for reducing its carbon footprint while maximizing its ability to contribute to global climate solutions. The initiative will offer the best of Google to early-stage firms advancing sustainability efforts with cloud computing, AI, and machine learning. This program will start its third year in North America.

Google is now expanding the program to Europe after learning from its experience with the North America Accelerator. The accelerator’s expansion into Europe comes at a time when technology can facilitate the efficient use of limited energy resources and assist hasten the transition to carbon-free energy.

The 10-week programs include support for product creation, customer acquisition, and founder leadership development in addition to mentorship and technical project support. Selected companies don’t have to provide anything to participate in a Google for Startups Accelerator because all of them are equity-free. Both locations will begin operations in March 2023 and welcome applications through January 19.

“To date, 22 startups from North America have graduated from Accelerator: Climate Change including BlocPower, which retrofits old residential buildings to be all-electric with clean energy systems,” Google further asserted.

Google Alumni for Startups Accelerator: Climate Change

Exenor Bioenergy, which turns plastic and organic waste into clean energy, and Carbon Limit, which develops a nature-based cement substitute that turns concrete into an effective and long-lasting remedy for CO2 pollution, are two other alumni of the Google for Startups Accelerator: Climate Change. This initiative complements our Circular Economy Accelerator, which assists groups in developing zero-waste solutions in Asia and North America.
