A forthcoming mobile game created by Niantic Labs, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a Pokémon GO fame in collaboration with Warner Bros. It is an augmented reality (AR) game that will take place in the Harry Potter universe.
Harry Potter is a fantasy series of novels based on a young wizard who’s a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. First announced in 2017, the AR game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be quite familiar to those who have played the wildly successful mobile game Pokemon Go.
The game is in collaboration with WB Games San Francisco and Niantic under the Portkey Games label. As far rumored, it’ll be released before this year’s end, as announced last week by the game developers at a briefing at Niantic’s San Francisco headquarters.
How do you play the game? Like Pokemon Go, you will have to rely on your phone’s location system, which will help you to interact with beasts, objects, points of interest, and other witches and wizards you come across on your game’s map while you move around the physical world. There will be added points on the map – inns, greenhouses, fortresses – as well as “traces” that will be scattered around. You can even interact with all these things and then make up the discovery side of the game.
To start the game, you must create your own wizarding avatar using the phone’s camera. You can then choose your outfit in witch and wizard garb.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will require you to physically move around to encounter new creatures and find exciting places to interact within the game. We’re not exactly sure what type of magical Foundables will be in the game, but we have seen a Boggart kicking around in the promo images.
While you play the game, everything you encounter and come across will be added and collected in your Vault, with a Registry similar to a sticker book that will help you keep track of everything. This is the addictive side of the game as you’ll want to ensure you’re filling up that Registry.
Besides exploring and collecting, there’s a role-play gaming side to Wizards Unite. Here you’ll be able to set up your character, not only choosing your wand, house, and creating your official Task Force ID, but also the opportunity to choose a profession. The game really sounds to be up to the mark, especially for those Harry Potter freaks.
Regarding the release date, unfortunately, there is no official announcement as of right now, but Android users are able to pre-register on the Google Play store.
