Helldivers 2 latest Warbond, Borderline Justice, attempts to connect the rough charm of the Wild West with the very chaotic intergalactic warfare. This specific premium content pack, which is released by Arrowhead Game Studios, has a lot of new features such as weapons, armor, emotes, and stratagems, fused within this space cowboy aesthetic. But does it hit or does it misfire? Let’s dive in.
The Arsenal of the Space Cowboys
Weapons are the essence of Helldivers 2 Borderline Justice, and it does not let down in this aspect. Included in this pack is the R-6 Deadeye, a lever-action hunting rifle, satisfying for those who like precision combat rather than spray and pray. The rifle comes with a slow bolt-action mode of fire but a high impact, making it an incredibly reliable weapon choice for taking out priority targets. Joining this is the LAS-58 Talon, a laser revolver that packs a punch, yet needs a careful hand to keep from overheating. Not only do these weapons look the part, but they feel the same even in gameplay; they add an extra layer of strategizing whilst deciding your weapons loadout.
Another stand-out is the TED-63 Dynamite, a throwable explosive with a variable timer. Whether you’re blowing up swarms of bugs or setting traps for enemy patrols, this dynamite is some old-school flavor added to your tactical toolbox. And how about the LIFT-860 Hover Pack, which allows you to shoot across the heavens, looking down at the battlefield? Guess who has the high ground now?
Armour and Aesthetics
As is tradition, Borderline Justice has added two new armour sets: the GS-66 Lawmaker and the GS-17 Frontier Marshal. Both include the Gunslinger passive perk, which contributes to reload speed, draw/holster times, and recoil control with secondary weapons. The heavy armour and bandolier of the Lawmaker exemplify the total “space sheriff,” while the medium armour of the Frontier Marshal’s line is rather everything rugged and frontier. They are more than just looks, with utility gameplay providing them for different playstyles.
Still, the Wild West is not coming through strongly. Sure, the weapons and armour speak a little cowboy, but how about hats with wide brims and boots with spurs? The emote and player’s title add some fun but are not able to fill that gap between what it tries to achieve and what has been created.
See You, Space Cowboy
Borderline Justice marks itself as more than a justifiable addition to Helldivers 2, leaning on the colorful facets of what will delight the fans of such an exciting game. New weapons and armour are beautifully designed and pack a punch, while the hover pack revolutionizes the whole combat experience. However, this Warbond didn’t completely embrace the theme it was trying to achieve with the Wild West. Instead, it felt more like a sci-fi add-on with some cowboy tone rather than a true space western.
For Helldivers 2 fans eager to spice up their arsenal, Borderline Justice delivers exciting new weapons, gear, and tactical upgrades. The R-6 Deadeye rifle, LAS-58 Talon revolver, and LIFT-860 Hover Pack add fresh combat dynamics. However, while it introduces a space-western aesthetic, it doesn’t fully capture the Wild West fantasy some players might expect.
