The Honor brand is not known for the gaming phone like Black Shark or the ROG Phone 2. But the company is trying to capture the attention of the gaming market anyway with its Honor 20 Pro, released globally last month. At the Gamescom 2019 today, Honor announced its new hardware and software initiatives, keeping in mind its new strategy.
According to Honor, 18% of their users are gamers, and the Honor 20 pro’s edge-to-edge display with 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and the GPU Turbo 3.0 makes it perfect for gaming purposes.
At the Gamescom 2019, Honor released the Honor GamePad, attachable hardware which can be plugged into the Honor 20 Pro using the USB-C port. The GamePad comes with six buttons and a joystick to help the games enjoy their game without having to deal with tiresome keypad button controls.
Honor GamePad hardware will go into the sale in Western Europe initially later this year. The GamePad uses Bluetooth to connect to the Honor Pro 20. Most games available on the market and using Bluetooth controls are compatible with the GamePad and the Honor 20 Pro.
The buttons on the GamePad are also customizable according to the need of individual gamers. The GamePad is powered by a 400mAh battery and can provide a long gaming time. Honor also mentions that when the battery runs out after prolonged use, it can still function, drawing power from the phone via USB-C.
Coming to the new gaming-friendly software, Honor is partnering with new gaming studios, and Honor will give them API access to Honor Hardware resulting in some exclusive games and features on Honor’s part. Honor will preload game into a new gaming folder which is being called the Gaming Arena folder by Honor itself, on future phones.
