With 5G smartphones being one of the highlights of smartphone evolution this year, numerous commercial-ready 5G smartphones by mobile majors to be unveiled. There are yet many companies are lined up to bring their 5G devices in the near future; HTC is one of them.
HTC has joined the race with its plans to develop 5G technology and launching 5G smartphones sometime in 2020, as stated by Darren Chen, head of HTC Taiwan.
In fact, HTC had already unveiled their 5G mobile smart hub at the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in February at Barcelona. At present, it is known that the Taiwan-based company has collaborated with foreign telecom operators to launch a first-of-its-kind HTC 5G mobile smart hub.
The HTC 5G mobile smart hub is like a 5G mobile hotspot that would allow up to 20 users to use the network and even stream TV shows and movies. HTC believes that 5G will prove to be groundbreaking for VR and AR, and the new HTC 5G Hub is designed to seamlessly deliver the bandwidth of 5G to its VR devices.
The smart hub will contain a battery, making it portable and easy to use anywhere.
Last year, HTC had joined a Taiwan 5G industry development alliance led by Chunghwa Telecom. Now a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the two to maintain this alliance and develop 5G technology.
Moreover, Taiwan’s government has planned to assign NT$20.4 billion (US$648 million) for a period of four periods period in order to develop 5G mobile networks. Thanks to this, Taiwan is all set to start its 5G services from 2020 onwards.
