HTC has been paring down its portfolio considerably, having already sold off a part of its smartphone-making business to Google and undergone a second round of layoffs, leaving it with fewer smartphone models to be launched this year. Leading this model group is a flagship codenamed ‘Imagine’, and is expected to be marketed under the branding HTC U12 Plus.

HTC 12 Plus will stand on its own, without being complimented by an HTC 12; it is a follow-up on last year’s flagships, HTC 11 and HTC 11+. The bezel-less device, whose name resembles Galaxy S9+, is expected to give tough competition to the Galaxies, Mates, and other phones boasting “modern” designs.

HTC U12+ has a 6-inch LCD panel with WQHD+ resolution, and its slim anterior bezels have been embedded with a pair of 8 MP selfie cameras, similar to HTC U11 EYEs. The phone is being powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, which has been paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB to 128GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD). A 16 MP and 12 MP dual camera sits on the back of the phone, arranged horizontally above an LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. The phone also boasts of being equipped with the second generation of HTC’s Edge Sense hardware, introduced last year to let users control various functions by physically squeezing the device’s sides. The phone is going to run on Android Oreo 8.0 and has a 3420 mAh battery.

Having hit a minor snag, the official launch of the flagship has been postponed by some weeks, taking the launch date from late April to early May. Apart from U12 Plus, HTC is also working on launching two other full-screen phones codenamed Breeze and Breeze+, which might be marketed as HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+, respectively.
