Huawei and ABI are in a joint venture for elaborating 5G network in support of digital airports. Airports are now not only a place for travelers but rather are miniature of a smart city as they combine retailers, advertisers, passengers, transport companies, and security companies and hence requires enhanced connectivity capabilities.

The 5G Digital airport white paper points out how airports, as transportation hubs, are the industry trendsetters for digital transformation. Many airports are now turning to 4G and eyeing 5G as a key pillar for the digitization of airports of the future.

The digital indoor system offers both large-capacity and scalability, delivers premium experiences, and adequately supports the transition to 5G. Having already been deployed at numerous large airports around the world, it is the ideal choice for the construction of 5G digital airports. An example of a modern airport that chose to deploy DIS is the new Istanbul Airport, which deployed Huawei’s LampSite through the venue in a period of 3 months.

Airports are becoming a testbed for new technologies, driven by the increased number of passengers, more security, improved safety, and the need for a better user experience. The 5G indoor coverage will allow high-speed wireless connectivity for passengers who have just landed and personalized baggage tracking through sensors throughout loading docks. It will also enable automated check-in and allow passengers to use their smartphones as their credentials.

Hence the digital indoor system will provide the most effective way for operators to construct indoor 5G networks.
