Huawei, along with many more Chinese brands, has been finding it hard to survive in the US for the last several months, and the situation keeps getting worse for Huawei are not sure if it will improve or not. However, the Chinese firm is better off than its fellow phone manufacturer ZTE. ZTE has been blacklisted in the US due to some trade violations. This trade violation costs them too much as it directly leads to an export ban, ultimately losing their Android license. Learning from the mistakes made by other companies, Huawei has decided to take precautions to avoid letting themselves be in a similar situation.
They have taken major steps as a part of their precaution. One of them is to develop an in-house mobile operating system that could be used instead of Android. Many sources told the South China Morning Post that Huawei has been planning that since way before the ban on ZTE. They had been planning that since ZTE was subjected to a US national security investigation in 2012. Huawei has taken steps to develop its own operating system along with tablet and PC versions.
Even though not enough information about Huawei’s new operating system has been released, it was reported that it was still unable to provide stability, quality, and app support that Android is able to do. As a result, the operating system has not been officially used yet. On the other hand, even the officials have neither confirmed nor denied any news regarding the existence of the Huawei operating system. However, previously the company has stated that it has no plans to release its own operating system in the near foreseeable future.
Replacing Android would prove to be very difficult at this point. Without Google’s OS, Huawei will be unable to make or sell its phone in China or any other country. But the OS that they are developing currently could act as a safety measure.
