It has been a tradition with Huawei to release its P-series high-end smartphones at the end of March. The company had released P30 series was introduced in 2019, consisting of three models; the Huawei P30, P30 Pro, and the P30 Lite. Considering this trend, it is quite natural to assume that P40 series will be the next in line for release in 2020. Though speculative yet there is a possibility that the company is considering making a name change or planning to launch more P-series models. Recently, the Chinese smartphone giant has made three new trademark applications.
Huawei P300, P400, and P500
On August 2, 2019, Huawei Technologies submitted three trademark applications to the UK IPO (Intellectual Property Office). This concerns the names P300, P400, and P500.
The three trademarks are categorized as Class 9, with the description; ‘smartphones; mobile phones; tablets’. The applications were submitted by Forresters from England. Incidentally, this company recorded the names Huawei Air Glass and SuperSensing, probably meant for the Mate 30 series that is expected in October this year.
Huawei has never before released a P-series smartphone with a hundred in the model name. It is, therefore, unknown what models it will be. There is a possibility that Huawei will name its next phone P400 and not P40. The P300 could then become the P40 Lite, while the P500 becomes the name of the P40 Pro.
However, it is also possible that Huawei wants to add extra models to its P-series. The company already applied for the name Huawei P40 in October 2017. So it is not said that the P40 will not be released. Moreover, it takes another half a year before the new premium P-series smartphones are expected.
Huawei always launches its new P-series models in the first half of the year, followed by the Mate smartphones in the second half of the year. The Huawei Mate 30 series is expected in October, also within this series, there will be released both a Lite and a Pro model. The name Mate 30 already secured the company in July 2018.
However, it is difficult to predict if Huawei P300, P400, and P500 will be launched this year.
