Huawei Technologies’ new smartphone, Mate 30 is set to release without any Google apps. The tension between the U.S. government and the Chinese company, Huawei had been long-standing, and this decision to completely forego any Google apps came after the U.S. government decided not to extend the partial reprieve on blacklisting Huawei.
Mate 30 is set to launch in Munich mid-September. Another smartphone of Huawei, the Mate X, will also be free of any google apps. The Mate X is expected to launch by the end of this month. By deciding to omit Google altogether, analysts predict that the sales would drop as low as 10 million units in Huawei’s part this year.
As of now, the U.S. is still not looking towards softening the ban imposed on the Chinese company, and as mentioned by the U.S. President Donald Trump, Huawei still poses a threat to the country’s security.
He also mentioned that any business with the company will ultimately cease in the upcoming years. While Huawei had been struggling to negotiate with the U.S. government, the fact that Google withheld preinstalled apps from the upcoming Huawei smartphones came as a shock to the company.
The U.S. government had given a 90-day grace period for companies like Google following the ban on Huawei products to protect the interests of the American consumers.
However, after the deadline which was on August 19 was over, the Commerce Department did extend the reprieve for certain companies, surprisingly Google was left out of that 90-days extension period. It goes without saying that this decision taken by the U.S. government will certainly affect the sales of Huawei smartphones in its overseas markets.
Google being the top search engine used worldwide, if Huawei is deprived of Google and all the functions and apps that come with Google, naturally consumers would look elsewhere. A Chinese analyst predicts that the sale would plummet by 30% or more.
Preventive measures have been taken by Huawei and it is planning to release is own search engine, Harmony or Hongmeng. Huawei still needs two to three years to develop this.
