Several new high-end smartphones are expected to hit the market in the next 3 months. Samsung will unveil its Galaxy Note 10, next week followed by Apple a month later with its new iPhone 2019 line-up. Chinese company Huawei is expected to launch a number of models in the second half of the year including Huawei Mate 30 and the Mate 30 Pro. In addition, a cheap variant is expected, the Mate 30 Lite.
The Mate 30 Pro is expected to have a broad notch in which 3D facial recognition technology has been incorporated. However, the Huawei P30 Pro does not have this advanced technology. The Mate 20 Pro that was launched in 2018 was equipped with a similar biometric authentication module.
Huawei smartphones are doing very well in terms of camera. It is expected that the digital camera of the Mate 30 Pro will excel again. Earlier, LetsGoDigital reported on two trademark applications from Huawei for the names Camera Matrix and Cine Lens.
Once again, two applications for trademark have been submitted by the Chinese manufacturer to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) and to the UK IPO (Intellectual Property Office). This concerns the Huawei Air Glass and SuperSensing names.
Both trademarks were filed on July 29, 2019, by Forresters from Munich, Germany. The Forresters trades more often in the name of Huawei Technologies, as the German company also recorded the names for Camera Matrix and Cine-Lens earlier this month.
Huawei Air Glass
The name Huawei Air Glass is defined as Class 9, with an extensive description including: ‘Covers for smartphones; cases for smartphones; Protective glasses; covers for tablet computers; protective films adapted for smartphones; Stands adapted for mobile phones. “
With the name Air Glass, you quickly think of a screen protector. Although the P30 (Pro) is standard equipped with a screen protector, the well-known Corning Gorilla Glass is not used for this. Huawei has used ‘Air Glass’ to protect the screen of its new Mate. The Mate 20 series, which was launched last year, was also equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass, as can be read on the Corning site.
Huawei SuperSensing camera
The definition ‘SuperSensing’ was applied for the first time at the beginning of this year, both the Huawei P30 and the P30 Pro have a 40 megapixel SuperSensing main camera. This is part of the triple/quad-camera system.
The SuperSpectrum sensor, the ISP (Image Signal Processor) and the Kirin 980 chipset work together in such a way that they can capture 40% more light enabling to click detailed photos during evening, Huawei reported at the time. The results are impressive, in the rankings of the independent DxO Mark the Huawei P30 Pro still invariably holds the No. 1 position of ‘Best camera smartphones’.
This SuperSensing camera technology will probably also be used in the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. The possible camera specs were also mentioned on Twitter. The Mate 30 Pro would have two 40 megapixel cameras, one with a cine lens and the other with an ultra-wide-angle cine lens. With the P30 Pro, the ultra-wide-angle camera still has 20 megapixels. Besides, the use of a cine lens is new, and this should improve the video quality.
The third camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. Although the tweet refers to the Mate 30 Pro, the general expectation is that the Pro model will have a fourth lens, this will be a ToF 3D camera. The standard Mate 30 will probably get three camera lenses.
Those interested in buying the models will have to wait till October when Huawei plans to introduce its new Mate smartphones. The device is expected to be available from November. That only applies to the 4G models, presumably, you can only buy the 5G variants from December.
