Xiaomi’s ex-Vice President Hugo Barra resigned from Xiaomi just a couple of days before. And now Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that he is joining Facebook as the Vice President of all the Virtual Reality effects and the head of Oculus.
Hugo had done incredible work at Xiaomi – taking the entry-level startup into a world-class technology brand. Under his leadership, Xiaomi developed many innovative devices and he also helped in developing the Android operating system while he was at Google.
According to Mark Zuckerburg, CEO of Facebook, “I’ve known Hugo for a long time. Hugo shares my belief that Virtual and Augmented Reality will be the next major computing platform. Hugo is going to help build that future, and I’m looking forward to having him on our team.”
Hugo said that it’s his dream to work in Virtual Reality and was excited to work with Mark and the whole Facebook family.
Hugo wrote on Facebook, “I learned from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun that there’s no greater calling in our industry than taking breakthrough tech and making it available to the greatest number of people.”
The former Xiaomi veteran is very excited about being the leader of the Virtual Reality mainstream at Facebook. He will focus on providing technology breakthroughs readily and quickly available to the widest possible spectrum of humanity.
