Online grocery delivery platforms in India recently, has gained much attention from the consumers. With the declaration of the COVID-19 as a global pandemic and from the starting of the ‘New-Normal’ online grocery have served the people in need preventing them from going out to buy groceries.
Among all the available grocery delivery platforms, Big Basket, Ali Baba India’s largest grocery e-commerce platform, without any doubt enjoys the attention of consumers to the fullest. However to the user’s utmost disappointment, Big Basket, as reported by a US cybersecurity research company, Cyble Inc., got hacked.
The news has been confirmed by the CEO and the co-founder of the company, Hari Menon. As reported, delicate and vulnerable information of the users were seized. Information on millions of users, including their email ID, address, and mobile numbers, have got stolen.
To users’ much disappointment, it is further reported that the hackers sold the vulnerable and sensitive information which got hacked on behalf of an amount which is more than $40,000. The hackers also made the information available on the dark web.
At the end of last month, the news circulated, stating BigBasket’s action to negotiate with the Tata Group to share its share with the said group of companies for approximately US$1 billion.
Moreover, according to some sources, Alibaba, which currently holds nearly 26% of Big Basket’s shares, is planning to wrap its deal with BigBasket by selling its share.
