Intel will discontinue Pluto Canyon NUC, with 11th-gen Core version soon arriving

Foreign media Tom’s Hardware reports that Intel announces to discontinue the Hades Canyon NUC production line. The mini-computer model arrived in the market two years ago and was equipped with the chip Intel-AMD coprocessor Kaby Lake-G.

However, according to the reports, NUC8i7HNK and NUC8i7HVK will not be entirely unavailable at the market right now. For interested customers, Intel gives chance to place their final orders up to November 27.

The last batch of the model will be shipped on January 29 of the next year.

Hades Canyon, the model successor to Skull Canyon, was the first model for which a NUC (Next Unit of Computing) had come up with a processor that wasn’t entirely made by Intel.

Kaby Lake-G marks one of the rare scenarios where the two rivals Intel and AMD bonded together for making a product. Although it was based on the Kaby Lake microarchitecture, the 14nm chips had AMD’s Vega graphics.

Intel had already done away with its Kaby Lake-G processors in the last October, so it was quite expected that the chip maker would discontinue its other products that are based on Kaby Lake-G.

As far as the information from PCN (Product Change Notification) document is concerned, Intel has reduced the production of NUC8i7HNK and NUC8i7HVK NUC kits and mini computers.

Both of these devices were based on quad-core Kaby Lake-G parts. The NUC8i7HNK was equipped with the Core i7-8705G, while the NUC8i7HVK utilized the Core i7-8809G.

According to the foreign media FanlessTech, Intel will be releasing its NUC 11 Performance/Extreme in the second half of 2020 to fully upgrade the 11th-generation Core Tiger Lake-U which has the GTX 1660 Ti graphics card.
