On Wednesday, i. e. On November 29, Intel and Warner Bros. announced their partnership to develop autonomous cars for the future. Together, they are working on the AV Entertainment Experience project while starting with creating a ‘first-of-its-kind proof-of-concept’ car.

Intel has expressed its observation results that direct us towards a future of the AV (automotive vehicle) industry, where passengers and drivers will enjoy immersive experiences via AR and VR content. Simultaneously with performance, the collaboration is focusing on bringing entertainment too, with instances like driving the Batmobile if you are a Batman fan.

At the Automobility LA after the announcement, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich underlined Intel’s advancements in the AV industry since 2016. At the conference, Intel demonstrated the Mobileye EyeQ5 SoC that provides 2.4 TOPS per watt for 2.4 times greater deep learning performance efficiency than Nvidia’s Xavier.

Alongside performance and experience, Intel is also considering safety for the Mobileye’s ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) technology has been able to reduce accidents by 30%, saving 1,400 lives, preventing 450,000 crashes, and saving $10 billion in terms of economic loss. Although, Intel doesn’t want to stop, as it aims to bring zero-driving related fatalities in the long run.

While there’s a lot more to consider, like policies on the roads, Intel with Mobileye came up with a formal model proposal named Responsibility-Sensitive Safety(RSS). This is further to reduce accidents as much as possible as the AV system will be intended to never issue a command that leads to accidents.

In fact, Intel is working with Mobileye as well, the latter being a leader of the world in ADAS. This collaboration looks to implement their signature attributes in technology in order to deliver heightened deep learning performance efficiency in the industry. Less expensive cooling solutions and better fuel economy would be the major productive elements of this partnership.
