A newly approved patent by the United States Trademark and Patent Office shows that Apple’s upcoming iPhone could be unfolded like a scroll. The patent titled “Electronic Device with Flexible Display Structure”, was exposed online in the early hours of the day.
In the patent description, Apple stated that the flexible screen may be stored around the rollers in the position where the screen is kept. The rollers can be unfolded using the auxiliary setting after the screen has been removed from the housing. According to the sketches, the phone’s screen will be bent within the fuselage when not in use, and software will be able to adjust this so that it is off-screen when not in use to save power.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that it is more convenient to use than a mobile phone with a folding screen since the entire screen can be pulled out at once and has a surface area that is roughly twice as large as in the scroll mode. The technology is only at the patent stage right now, so it’s unclear if it will ever be used with the iPhone.
