Earlier this year, the popular TF International Securities tech analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Novatek will be supplying an OLED display to Apple for its upcoming iPhone Pro series next year. According to him, Novatek will be a major driver IC manufacturer for the iPhone OLED in 2024 and growing the company’s gross profit by contributing 5% of the revenue next year.
However, in his latest survey today, the popular Apple analyst has given an updated prediction on the earlier information noting that the 2024 iPhone DDI shipments from Novatek will likely be lower than expected.
Why iPhone DDI Shipments from Novatek will be Lower
Justifying the claim, the analyst pointed out that Apple has become conservative in adding new DDI suppliers and Novatek’s 2024 iPhone DDI shipments are expected to be more than 30% lower.
Additionally, Ming-Chi Kuo further added that by the second quarter of the year, 2023 most Android smartphone brands are now widely expected to miss the peak seasonality. As a result, Novatek’s Android market share gains may not offset weak smartphone demand this year.
Why Apple Chooses Novatek’s DDI
As we all know, Apple is currently trying to reduce the ratio of Korean manufacturers, particularly Samsung Display for displays and Samsung LSI for DDI, in the procurement of display panels for iPhones, and is working in favour of Novatek.
In one of his predictions, the TF International Securities analyst said that by the current plan, Novatek is expected to begin shipping DDIs for high-end iPhones in the second half of 2024 and that is likely to be around July to December. However, with this latest development, it seems something might have changed. Thus, stay connected with TechGenyz for more updates.
