Along with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max launch, Apple has just announced its new budgeted iPhone, the iPhone XR. A new model that features a notched 6.1-inch LCD display and with an upgrade to TrueDepth System for fast Face ID unlock.

The new iPhone XR is a pretty significant upgrade for Apple, available in different colors; white, black, blue, yellow, coral and red but that comes only in aluminum and not stainless steel hence making the iPhone X’s design and features standard across the company’s latest line of phones.

This phone has no notch at the top housing the phone’s camera and Face ID sensors. The new XR replaces the iPhone 8 as the least expensive iPhone available. It features an IP67 water and dust protection instead of the improved IP68 rating on the iPhone XS. It offers an LCD screen instead of OLED. Apple also offers a 3D touch instead of the new Haptic touch system that fetches similar feedback to the buttonless MacBook Pro trackpad.

Apple calls this the Liquid Retina with a bigger LCD Display than iPhone 8 Plus. It boasts of an hour and a half more battery than the iPhone 8 Plus.

The screen is a 6.1-inch LCD screen, unlike the OLED version found in the iPhone X, Xs and Xs Max with 1792 x 828 with 326 PPI. It features Apple’s latest A12 Bionic processor, just like the iPhone XS and XS Max — which Apple says offers improved speeds and performance over last year’s model, particularly for Apple’s “Neural Engine” AI processing.

iPhone’s camera features a single 12-megapixel wide-angle camera — the same wide-angle camera as the XS. Well, this single camera does not offer the so-wanted portrait mode that combines hardware and software to create the blurred background effect.

Whereas the front-facing camera has upgraded to a TrueDepth system with a 7-megapixel sensor that allows for Face ID and features like portrait mode selfies, the same enhanced feature as highlighted on the XS, with faster Face ID unlocking.

The iPhone XR will come in five finishes and will be available with three storage options: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB, starting at $749. It will be available to order, along with the iPhone Xs, on October 19 and ship a week later on October 26, 2018.
