The Baidu-owned iQiyi, which is basically China’s alternative for Netflix, is making its way into the real media business by releasing its very own iQiyi 4K VR headset. The device’s developers claim that it will come with full support for the 8K panoramic view. This is, no doubt, very happy news for the users of such gadgets as higher resolution content always looks great, giving the users’ experience another dimension altogether. The headset is known as iQiyi Qiyu VR II.
The new headset is designed according to the tech company’s already released new technology, which was released at this year’s CES show. The new iQiyi Qiyu VR II goes way beyond any VR available right now on the market as it promises to come with an 8K panoramic video support. To deliver such a strong performance, the hardware within the Qiyu headset needs to be pretty strong.
According to the reports, the new headset will perform 35 percent more than its predecessors and will leverage a 4K LCD display. It will also feature three degrees of motion tracking with an optional upgrade for positional (six degrees) tracking as well. iQiyi has a large audience, and it has been reported that lately, the users count for the company has been surmounted up to 500 million. With such a huge number of users, the Baidu-backed company should not face any problems regarding selling the headset and its content.
The amount of content available in the headset at the time of launch is said to be somewhere near 10,000 movies and 20,000 programs with panoramic content, and several hundred 4K and 8K videos designed with VR in mind. Apart from 4K and 8K videos, the new headset will also offer 3D videos as well.
The price of the VR set is not yet known, but it is possible that it could be bundled into the subscription price of the service. If they manage to pull it off, with all the alluring features, it will prove to be a major competitor in the ultra HD media space market.
