ISRO was to launch its second moon mission in April, but Chairman K Shivan confirmed that it will be in October 2018. As an explanation behind the postponement, he said that the mission needs to go through certain tests.
Pitched as an indigenous mission consisting of the orbiter, lander, and rover; it is as well claimed that it will be more powerful than NASA’s Apollo missions.
Chandrayaan-2 is one of the most remarkable ISRO missions of 2018 and it will be a world event. – Dr. Jitendra Singh, minister of state
Talking about the capabilities of the spacecraft, he stated that it is scientifically highly advanced and eyes to capture vital data of moon. This data may bring us to the point of habitation in the moon!
While it all sounds interesting, the ISRO Chandrayaan 2 mission is as well cheaper than the popular Hollywood makes Interstellar. The Indian moon mission is pegged at about Rs. 800 crore or $123 million, whereas Christopher Nolan’s work was for Rs. 1,062 crore or $165 million.
Now, ISRO is not just concerned about the Chandrayaan-2, but as well studying the moon to understand habitation possibilities on the heavenly body. Singh confirmed the same and added: “Various options are being studied about the requirements and complexities of habitats.”
We do want it all to end on a note of pride that would lead the way to newer possibilities. Stay with us to be updated on this matter.
