Lenovo today made an official announcement, confirming the Android 8.0 Oreo update for 3 of the most successful flagship devices – Lenovo K8, K8 Plus, and K8 Note. Lenovo K8 will get updated in June 2018, whereas it will take one more month for K8 Plus and K8 Note to get the update. The company also clarified that no Lenovo Smartphone other than these three would receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update.
These 3 smartphones mentioned above are currently being run on Android 7.0 Nougat OS. Though Lenovo has declared this entire procedure to be in progress, it is to be seen whether the devices get updated directly to Android 8.0 Oreo or via the 7.1 Nougat update.
The dates announced for the updates are a bit astonishing, though, given the fact that these smartphones are run on by stock Android. Devices run on by stock Android are supposed to be the very first ones to receive the updates. Android 9.0 is rumored to launch in August 2018, only a few months after these smartphones update.
Motorola, in spite of being a sub-brand of Lenovo, has declared a much earlier Android 8.0 Oreo update for 12 of its devices – Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto Z2 Play, Moto Z2 Force Edition, Moto X4, Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S, Moto G5S Plus, and the Moto G4 Plus. Other smartphone companies, including OnePlus, HTC, and HMG Global, have followed the same path as well.
