LG Energy Solution has recently halted the development of Prismatic batteries, but now the company canceled the development of the batteries, according to TheElec. At the beginning of this year, the company made a scrutinized study on the product about its feasibility. Still, later it was concluded that it was not viable enough to perform. It has been reported that Prismatic batteries play as a substitute for cylindrical batteries by placing the materials in a metal can. Samsung SDI, CATL, and BYD all produce this kind of battery.

LG Energy Solutions is now more focused on the mass production of pouch batteries; in pouch batteries, most of the cells are embedded inside an aluminum-coated plastic film. Even though the company produces cylindrical batteries, it uses pouch batteries for most of its electric vehicles. As to end up retaining the best batteries to outperform its rivalries, the company’s final decision was to put a barrier to stop searching for components to make prismatic batteries more convenient than other types.
LG Energy Solutions is currently focused on broadening its capacity, so expanding capacity for a specific battery type is much more important than technology. Pouch cells are not similar to other cells. Rather, it consists of pouched films in the place of metal cans for battery material, which creates a suitable environment for manufacturers to increase the battery’s energy density.
One of the important yet smoothest processes of producing Pouch cells is removing unwanted gases that form in the enclosed pouch during production. LG Energy Solutions is now utterly focusing on creating its manufacturing process more nuanced. The company uses Z-stacking for stacking batter materials, which prevents separator destruction by adding more lamination into the production.
